Obituary
From the Conservative, Sept. 23 1942: "PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY IN THIS CITY. Charles Henry Firth, 75, a resident of Buchanan county nearly all of his life, died at his home here in the second ward on Saturday morning at 5:30 o'clock following a paralytic stroke which he suffered two days before. Mr. Firth was born in Winnebago County, Illinois, on November 11, 1886, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Firth, and came to Buchanan County with his parents when a small boy. They located on a farm southeast of Independence, where he grew to manhood. He was married on December 22, 1897 to Miss Lottie Amanda Polk, she surviving him. They located on a farm near Brandon, where they lived until they came to Independence 30 years ago. He was employed by the city. Surviving besides his widow are a son, Floyd, and a daughter, Zola Firth, Independence; three brothers, Frank, Independence; John, Los Angeles; and George, Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Neidy, Independence; Mrs. Emmons Clark, Southgate, Calif.; Mrs. Hugh Miller, Goodwin, S.D. A son and daughter died in infancy. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Resided, conducuted by Rev. H. H. Dill, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Bear Creek Cemetery in Benton County near Brandon."
